Be the Calm Your Kids Can Count On
You don't need to prepare for every disaster, You do need to know what your family would do when life doesn't go according to plan.
Join The Family Emergency Preparedness Hub for $1Emergency preparedness shouldn't make your life more stressful.
Â
But for a lot of moms, it does.
You've probably saved emergency-preparedness posts.
You've probably seen the giant checklists.
You've probably looked at somebody's perfectly organized pantry and thought:
“Yeah... I'm never going to be that prepared.”
Maybe you don't have a basement.
Maybe you don't have a ton of extra money.
Maybe you don't have hours every week to spend building emergency kits.
Maybe you don't even know what you're supposed to prepare for because every person on the internet seems to have a different answer.
And honestly?
You don't need more information
Â
You need to know what actually matters.
You need someone to help you think through your family's situation.
And you need a place to keep doing that over time as your family grows and dynamics change.
Hi! I'm JaNae the mother behind Prepared Like a Mother
I’m a wife, homeschooling mom of four, and business owner, trying to keep up with “Mom, I’m hungry,” dishes, laundry, and everything else that comes with motherhood.
I started my preparedness journey about 15 years ago because the thought of not being able to take care of my family after a major earthquake made me incredibly anxious.
In September 2021, I created Prepared Like a Mother after watching what happened during COVID.
I saw moms scrambling for food, baby formula, toilet paper, and medicine for their sick babies.
And I couldn’t shake it:
I couldn't imagine anything worse than looking at my babies in an emergency and saying... “I’m sorry you’re cold, hungry, sick, and scared. I can’t help you. I wasn’t prepared.”
That’s what Prepared Like a Mother is really about.
Helping moms feel capable of taking care of their families when life goes sideways.

Introducing the Family Emergency Preparedness Hub.
This isn't a giant library of random preparedness information.
And it isn't another generic checklist telling you to buy 47 things from Amazon.
It's where you build your family's preparedness from the ground up...
then keep strengthening it, one real-life “What If?” at a time.
Build a foundation you can actually trust.
The Emergency Preparedness Bootcamp
Your first step inside the Hub is getting the foundation in place.
We'll walk through the major areas of family preparedness and help you build a system that actually fits your life.
Â
Food Storage
Stop buying random emergency food you don't even know how to use.
Learn how to build a food supply around what your family already eats, how to rotate it, how to work within your budget, and how to make limited storage space work for you.
The goal isn't a basement full of food nobody wants to eat.
The goal is:
“If the grocery store isn't available, I can still feed my family.”
Â
Your Family Emergency Plan
Figure out what risks actually matter for your family based on where you live, where your kids are, where you work, how your family moves through the week, and the personal situations you may need to prepare for.
You'll think through things like:
-Where will we go?
-How will we communicate?
-What happens if we're separated?
-What if my spouse can't get home?
-What if we have to evacuate?
-What if we're stuck at home?
-What if something happens while my kids are somewhere else?
Instead of hoping everybody knows what to do...
you'll actually have a plan.
Â
72-Hour Kits
Build kits for the people who actually live in your house.
Not somebody else's family.
Not a generic Amazon emergency bag.
Your family.
We'll think through food, water, medications, clothing, hygiene, comfort items, babies, kids, pets, weight, transportation, storage and the situations you're most likely to face.
You'll learn how to make your kit fit your reality instead of trying to make your reality fit a checklist.
Â
Water Storage
Water is one of the hardest things to prepare for because it's heavy, bulky and easy to underestimate.
We'll help you think through how much your family needs, what you need water for, where you can store it, and what makes sense for your location and circumstances. We also dive into water filters and water disinfection.
Because having water somewhere in your house is not the same thing as having a water plan.
Â
Evacuation
What would you do if you had five minutes?
Fifteen?
Thirty?
An hour?
You'll think through where you're going, what matters most, how your family would get out, what happens if you're separated, and what each person is responsible for.
So you aren't standing in the middle of your house staring at everything you own thinking:
“What do I take?”
Â
The Other Stuff That Matters
First aid.
Additional kits.
Power.
Cooking.
Lighting.
Communication.
Shelter.
Cleanup.
Special considerations.
The things that help your family go from simply surviving an emergency to actually being able to function through it.
But... the Emergency Preparedness Bootcamp isn't the point.
Â
The point is what you become because of it.
Â
You're not trying to become the mom with the biggest stockpile.
You're trying to become the mom who knows:
-What matters.
-What doesn't.
-What my family needs.
-What we would do.
-What we need to work on next.
Â
Your preparedness starts becoming something you can actually understand instead of another thing hanging over your head.
Â
I'm ready to joinMove beyond the basics, one “What If?” at a time
Because here's what I've learned:
You can have your food storage, 72-hour kits, water, and family plan done...
and still wake up six months later thinking:
“Oh crap. What about THAT?”
That's why the Hub doesn't stop once your foundation is built.
Every month, we'll take one real-life What If? scenario and dig deeper.
Not just “What should I buy?”
But:
What would actually happen to YOUR family?
-
What becomes a problem first?
-
What decisions would you have to make?
-
What would your kids need?
-
What would you wish you'd thought about sooner?
-
What can you do now to make it less chaotic later?
This is where the “What If” method comes in.
Â
Each month we'll take one scenario and work through it together.
You'll get space to assess where your family stands.
Then we'll do a deeper dive into the scenario.
Then you'll get the prompts and anti-checklists to help you identify what your specific family needs.
So instead of spending hours wondering:
“What am I supposed to do?”
you can sit down and think:
“Okay. What does this look like for MY family?”
And then actually do something about it.
I'm ready to join
Why I won't give you a checklist
Because a checklist can't prepare your family.
It can tell you to buy water.
It can't tell you how much your family actually needs.
It can tell you to have a 72-hour kit.
It can't tell you what your toddler will eat, what medications your family needs, or where that kit needs to live.
It can tell you to have an evacuation plan.
It can't tell you what happens when your kids are at school, your spouse is at work, and you're at the grocery store.
That's why I won't hand you a giant list and say:
“Good luck. You're prepared now.”
I want to teach you how to think through preparedness for yourself.
Because that skill doesn't expire.
What changes when you become a member of The Family Emergency Preparedness Hub?
Â
You stop thinking about preparedness as one enormous project.
Instead, it becomes something you can actually handle.
Â
 You go from...
“I need to buy a million things.”
 To...
“I know what is actually worth spending money on.”
 You go from...
“I don't even know where to start.”
 To...
“I know exactly what I need to work on first.”
 You go from...
“My house isn't big enough for emergency preparedness.”
 To...
“I know how to work with the space I have.”
 You go from...
 “I hope nothing happens.”
 To...
“If something happens, we have a plan.”
 You go from...
 “What if this happens?”
 To...
 “Okay. What's next?”
 You go from...
“My kids probably wouldn't know what to do.”
 To...
“My kids know what we're going to do, too.”
And maybe the biggest transformation of all...
You stop feeling like you're failing at preparedness because you haven't done everything.
Because you finally understand:
Preparedness isn't about being ready for every possible disaster.
It's about creating a buffer between something going wrong and your family being completely overwhelmed by it.
You can't control whether your house catches fire.
You can't control whether the power goes out.
You can't control whether your spouse loses their job.
You can't control whether your city has a disaster.
You can't control every bad thing that could happen.
But you can make sure your family isn't starting from zero when something does go wrong.Â
The Family Emergency Preparedness Hub is for the mom who...
- Knows she should be prepared but keeps putting it off.
- Has saved dozens of preparedness posts but doesn't know what actually matters.
- Feels overwhelmed by everything she's “supposed” to do.
- Doesn't have unlimited time, space, or money.
- Doesn't want her home to look like a survivalist bunker.
- Doesn't want to live in fear.
The mom who wants to know that when her kids look at her and say:
“Mom, what do we do?”
she'll have an answer.
This probably isn't for you if...
- You want a giant checklist telling you exactly what to buy.
- You already have a preparedness system you're completely confident in.
- You have no interest in actually doing the work.
- You want someone to promise nothing bad will ever happen.
Because I can't promise that.
What I can help you do is become more capable of handling the things you can prepare for.

Insights from Experts in Family Preparedness
Jason M. @preppingwithpappy
"In the few short years that I have known JaNae, she has demonstrated nothing but genuine care and concern for people’s well being and wanting to help them become better prepared to face whatever emergency, disaster, or event that they face in life. As a wife and mother of 4 young kids, her life is already busy and full, yet she dedicates time to help anyone who asks it of her. She is more than a preparer, she is a nurturer, and she demonstrates that as she gives of her personal resources to help others. For these reasons, I support JaNae in her efforts with Prepared Like a Mother and her Inner Circle."
Reine @zompocmomÂ
JaNae is a wonderfully distinct voice within our preparedness community. I always enjoy her down-to-earth, family-focused content, and I’ve personally learned a lot from her. I especially like how she finds ways to make preparedness topics (which can sometimes be scary!) easier for younger kids to understand and practice. But what I like most about Prepared Like a Mother is that JaNae is not only sharing about preparedness online, she’s living it in the real world, every day. She’s the real deal!
